Voter Information

Primary Elections in NC

In North Carolina’s partisan primaries, your party affiliation determines which ballot you can vote on:

  • Registered Democrat → Democratic primary ballot only

  • Registered Republican → Republican primary ballot only

  • You cannot vote in another party’s primary, even if your party isn’t holding one

  • Want flexibility? Register as Unaffiliated. Unaffiliated voters may choose one party’s primary ballot (or a nonpartisan ballot, if available)

  • In the general election, all voters may vote for any candidate from any party
